Queens Award for Enterprise – International Trade

Dunstable-based British Converting Solutions Ltd scoops coveted award

British Converting Solutions Ltd (BCS), the Dunstable-based manufacturer of hi-tech packaging machinery, has been granted ‘The Queens Award’ in recognition of outstanding growth in export sales. Over the past four years, BCS has increased its export sales by almost 400%, with machines being sold to customers in the USA, Germany and Japan, naming just a few. The company operates its own sales offices in the USA, France, Germany, Mexico, Poland and Australia and works with sales agents in many other markets around the globe.

Continuous Research & Development has resulted in new machines being added to the BCS product line that enable companies to produce short run box orders.
The machines utilise the very latest in motion control technology, giving them the versatility to produce a wide size range of packaging boxes, with fully automatic size changing.

“The growth of e-commerce is driving the demand for smaller quantities of bespoke sized boxes and BCS machines are ideally suited to enable box factories or end users to make exact sized boxes in a real time basis,” explains Barry Tabor, Managing Director. “Our workforce is highly skilled and includes no fewer than nine apprentices working across the company’s manufacturing, design and admin departments. While working within the business, the apprentices attend local training colleges to further their education.”

Tabor continues, “We are delighted to receive this most prestigious Award. In the past five years, we have worked hard to develop our machines to make them suitable for customers around the world. Our entire team of people has contributed to the success and the Award is recognition of the part they have all played. Our sales team travel thousands of miles each year to visit potential customers and to work with our sales offices and agents around the world; they are followed by our team of installers and instructors to ensure the machines all work properly and show the customers how to operate the machines correctly to achieve maximum output. While we face increasing competition from local machinery manufacturers in many of the countries that we sell to, we have still managed significant growth in our export sales and we continue to look for new export markets.”

The Award coincides with BCS moving to a new purpose built factory in Dunstable. The new factory, with it’s increased capacity, will enable the business to continue to expand in the coming years, providing more jobs in the local area and using many of the local companies for services that a modern manufacturing business requires.
